I reach the green encased darkness.
A great sandstone staircase plummets into an abyss.
I rush down steep stone steps into the unknown.

What appeared to be a great dark hole in the undulating canvass of treetops is really a great sandstone staircase clinging to the side of the cliff. Its descent seems endless, as it is impossible to see the dark bottom. The intrigue is too much. Down I go. Everything is immediately darker. As my eyes adjust I rush downward looking back only once to see a tiny little hole of light high above. The stairs are beautiful gray sandstone and cut very evenly out of the native stone. Though they seem ancient and somewhat weather worn, they are really wonderful steps and easy to descend. I enjoy this descent into cool darkness.
